Tutoring: As part of our extended school day, students
participate in study hall from 4:30-5:30 pm, Monday
through Thursday. Tutors are used to keep students on
task and assist with assignments. We are looking for
volunteers who are college level or above to assist these
students with their academic needs.
Mentoring: De La Salle is not just a middle school. It is
important that each graduate of De La Salle has the support
they need to reach their individual goals. We are looking for
volunteers who can be introduced to a student during their
eighth grade year and mentor them as they continue their
education. Mentors will go through a specific training given
by our graduate support director. Mentoring a De La Salle
student is an ongoing commitment.
Renaissance: As part of our school goal to develop the whole child, De La Salle requires a Renaissance class three days a week from 3:30-4:30 pm. Renaissance classes include Robotics, Art, Dance, chess, swimming, digital media, foreign language, African drumming, entomology (bug science), year book, creative writing, and much more. We are looking for individuals or groups with specific skills to lead a Renaissance program. The commitment for leading a Renaissance program is once a week for one semester (13 weeks).
Guest Speakers: It is important for the students of De La Salle to be exposed to a wide variety of careers so that they can have a clearer understanding of their goals during postsecondary education. Our students are looking for role models who can offer a realistic picture of achievement while overcoming struggles. We are looking for guests who have a story to share with our students.
Coaching: Extracurricular activities are important to the students of De La Salle. We are currently seeking positive role models who have experience coaching. Coaching volunteers should be available 1-2 times per week between 5-7 pm.
Library: With the generous gift from the Booksource and the votes of so many supporters, De La Salle was blessed with a library. We are currently seeking a volunteer once a week to help reshelf books in the library.
Grounds/Cleaning: It is important that our students walk into a positive physical environment every day. Our students and staff take on many responsibilities for cleaning up after themselves. We are seeking volunteers who can help maintain the general upkeep of our school and its surroundings. If you or your group would like to help with a specific project please contact our volunteer coordinator.
Donate/Fundraise: 92% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students’ guardians make sacrifices to pay a yearly tuition. The tuition income provided by the students’ families is supplemented by grants, foundations and individual giving. We would not exist without these individual gifts. Volunteers are needed to raise funds. Whether it is the ability to give a personal gift or introducing someone to our school who is wanting to give back, your help is needed!
Special Events: Special events make up another source of income that supports De La Salle. These events include our Golf Tournament, Star of The Month events, Trivia Night, and the Catch a Rising Star event. We look for event volunteers to help with setup, clean up, and in kind donations related to these events.
Service Learning Partnerships: The students at De La Salle are not only taught to appreciate the services provided to them but they also gain an understanding of the importance of providing services to others. We look to partner with other schools, students, and organizations to provide students with service learning opportunities. If your school or organization would like to partner with De La Salle in its efforts to expose students to a variety of opportunities contact Colleen Ahearn 314-531-9820.
